The TEFLIN Bali Chapter in collaboration with Udayana University successfully held a Pengembangan Kompetensi Guru Bahasa Inggris (PKGBI) program on Monday, 10 August 2026 at Gedung Pascasarjana Universitas Udayana, Kampus Sudirman, Denpasar. The event brought together 70 English teachers hybrid from Denpasar, Badung, and surrounding areas offline and all over Bali through the online workshop to strengthen their competencies in response to the recent implementation of Tes Kemampuan Akademik (TKA).
This professional development program aimed to enhance teachers’ competencies in developing valid, reliable, and fair multiple choice questions, embrace the discussion on guiding students’ understanding upon textual and referential reading, as well as explore the critical assess texts and evaluative arguments in respond to build students confidence and critical reading.
Led by Prof, Prof. Dr. Ni Luh Nyoman Seri Malini and Made Hery Santosa, S.Pd., M.Pd.,Ph.D. delivered a session titled “Selayang Pandang Tes Kompetensi Akademik Bahasa Inggris” (An Overview of English Academic Competency Tests), Dr. A. A. Sagung Shanti Dewi, S.S., M.Hum., M.App.Ling., together with Ni Ketut Rahayu, S.S., M.Hum., presented “Pengembangan Butir Soal Pilihan Ganda” (Development of Multiple-Choice Test Items), Dr. Anak Agung Putri Maharani, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Dr. Sang Ayu Isnu Maharani, S.S., M.Hum., led the session “Strategi Pembelajaran Membaca Tingkat Tekstual” (Teaching Strategies for Textual-Level Reading), Novita Mulyana, S.S., M.Hum., together with Prof. Dr. Ni Luh Nyoman Seri Malini, delivered “Strategi Pembelajaran Membaca Tingkat Inferensial” (Teaching Strategies for Inferential-Level Reading), Ketut Santi Indriani, S.S., M.Hum., and Dr. Anak Agung Putri Maharani then presented “Strategi Pembelajaran Membaca Tingkat Evaluatif” (Teaching Strategies for Evaluative-Level Reading), and Putu Ayu Asty Senja Pratiwi, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., and Made Hery Santosa, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., conducted a practical session on “Pelatihan Pengembangan Butir Soal” (Training on Test Item Development) the sessions covered key topics such as Fair Assessment System, Critical Reading Encouragement, and Test Item Development. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, collaborative tasks, and hands-on test item development, while also sharing insights from their own teaching contexts.
By the end of the program, participants reported enhanced confidence in aligning instructional and assessment practices with TKA standards, alongside acquiring practical strategies to advance students’ reading development.
