The TEFLIN Chapter Kalimantan Timur successfully held a Pengembangan Kompetensi Guru Bahasa Inggris (PKGBI) program on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the General Sudirman Building Meeting Room, Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT). The event brought together 23 English teachers, lecturers, and pre-service teachers from schools and institutions across Samarinda and its surrounding areas, including SMP Plus Melati Samarinda, SD Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Samarinda, SDN 008 Samarinda Kota, SD Muhammadiyah 1 Samarinda, SD Muhammadiyah 2 Samarinda, SD Muhammadiyah 5 Samarinda, Sekolah Kreatif SD Muhammadiyah 3 Samarinda, SDN 012 Samarinda Kota, SMKN 8 Samarinda, SMP Negeri 2 Anggana, SMPN 38 Samarinda, SKB Negeri 3 Loa Janan Ilir, SMK Negeri 15 Samarinda, dan Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT), to strengthen their readiness for the recent implementation of Tes Kompetensi Akademik (TKA).
The program opened with remarks delivered virtually by TEFLIN President Prof. Utami Widiati, M.A., Ph.D., who underscored TEFLIN’s ongoing commitment to supporting English teachers throughout Indonesia as they adapt to new national assessment policies.
This professional development program aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the TKA assessment framework, strengthen their capacity to align classroom instruction and evaluation practices with TKA requirements, and build stronger professional networks among academics, practitioners, and English teachers in East Kalimantan.
Facilitated by a team of experts, Dr. Iwan Setiawan, M.Pd., Dr. Noor Rachmawaty, M.Ed., Yeni Rahmawati, S.Pd., M.Sc., Ade Ismail Ramadhan Hamid, S.S., M.Pd., Dr. Aridah, dan M.A., the session centered on understanding the structure and orientation of the TKA assessment framework and its practical implications for English language teaching. Participants engaged in presentations, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions, while also sharing perspectives from their own teaching contexts across different levels of education.
By the end of the program, participants reported a clearer understanding of the TKA assessment framework and greater confidence in adjusting their teaching and assessment practices accordingly. The activity also strengthened collegial ties among English teachers, lecturers, and pre-service teachers from diverse institutions across Samarinda and neighboring areas, reflecting TEFLIN’s broader mission of building a collaborative community of practice among English language educators in the region.
