The TEFLIN Sumatera Selatan–Bangka Belitung Chapter successfully held a Pengembangan Kompetensi Guru Bahasa Inggris (PKGBI) program on June 20, 2026, at the Postgraduate Hall, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang, South Sumatra. The event brought together 22 English teachers to strengthen their competencies in response to the recent implementation of Tes Kemampuan Akademik (TKA).

This professional development program aimed to enhance teachers’ reading competence, deepen their understanding of TKA Reading demands and formats, and equip them with the skills to design effective and valid Reading test items aligned with TKA requirements.

Led by Sary Silvhiany, M.A., Ph.D., Chair of TEFLIN Chapter SUMSELBABEL, and supported by the chapter’s committee, the program featured Sary Silvhiany, M.A., Ph.D.; Artanti Puspita Sari, M.A., Ph.D.; Dr. Rita Inderawati, M.Pd.; Tita Ratna Wulan Dari, M.Pd.; and Novalingga Pitaloka, M.Pd. as resource persons.

The sessions covered key topics related to TKA and Reading assessment, including an overview of TKA, the development of multiple-choice test items, strategies for teaching Reading through textual, inferential, and evaluative comprehension, as well as hands-on training in developing TKA-oriented Reading test items.

Participants actively engaged in discussions, shared insights from their teaching contexts, and worked collaboratively in developing Reading test items. Through these activities, teachers gained practical strategies for strengthening Reading instruction and aligning classroom assessment practices with the demands of TKA.

By the end of the program, participants produced collaborative work in TKA Reading test-item development and gained greater confidence in designing assessment instruments that support students’ literacy development and preparation for TKA.
