The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of Indonesia (Kemendikdasmen) continues to strengthen a fair, accountable, and adaptive national assessment system through the development of objective and valid instruments for measuring students’ academic achievement. In English language education, this effort aligns with a global shift in assessment paradigms, moving beyond the evaluation of isolated linguistic knowledge toward the measurement of higher-order literacy skills and academic reasoning.
Current national and international standards increasingly emphasize students’ ability to engage critically with complex texts, interpret implicit meanings, and evaluate arguments in academic contexts. This shift poses challenges for many educators, as gaps remain between conventional instructional practices and the literacy-based competencies expected in contemporary assessments. English teachers at the junior and senior secondary levels play a key role in reorienting classroom practices to foster students’ academic literacy and reasoning skills.
In response to these challenges, TEFLIN Regional Coordinators of West Java and Banten, in collaboration with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (UNTIRTA), and the English Teachers’ Association of Bandung City (MGMP), are organizing a webinar entitled “Nurturing Students with Literacy Skills in Academic Contexts.” The webinar is intended as a professional development forum for teachers, lecturers, and pre-service teachers to strengthen the integration of literacy and academic reasoning into English language teaching and assessment.
The webinar will be held on Saturday, 7 February 2026, from 08:30 to 12:00 WIB, via Zoom Meeting. The speakers are Prof. Emi Emilia Ph.D., Prof. Wawan Gunawan, Ph.D., and Ari Arifin Danuwijaya, Ph.D., with Dr. Dina Rachmawati and Dr. Finita Dewi, M.A. serving as MC and moderators.
