As part of TEFLIN’s national program (May – August 2025), the TEFLIN Chapter for the Southern Regions of Sulawesi and Maluku, in collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, hosted a two-day workshop on “Developing English Educators’ Competence in Deep Learning-Based Teaching” on August 23–24, 2025. Twenty-four educators attended in person from South and Southeast Sulawesi.
The workshop brought together master trainers from Unismuh Makassar, Universitas Halu Oleo, Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare, Universitas Negeri Makassar, and Universitas Pattimura. In addition to applying the Deep Learning Approach to classroom strategies, the sessions also fostered networking among English teachers in the southern regions of Sulawesi and Maluku.
Participants spoke highly of the experience. One teacher from Kendari shared, “It was truly worth traveling all the way to Makassar because I really learned how to apply the Deep Learning approach in English language teaching.” Another participant from Makassar added, “I’m very satisfied and happy to join this workshop. I’ve attended several Deep Learning workshops before, but this is the first time it went beyond surface learning and truly focused on classroom application.”
Overall, the event deepened participants’ understanding of the Deep Learning Approach and inspired them to bring new practices into their classrooms. With strong enthusiasm and collaboration, the workshop marked another important step in TEFLIN’s mission to empower educators and advance English language teaching across Indonesia.
