The Deep Learning Training and Workshop (DLTW), organised under the coordination of TEFLIN West Kalimantan, was successfully held from 29 July to 9 August 2025 in two cities — Pontianak and Singkawang. The event aimed to strengthen English teachers’ pedagogical competence and understanding of deep learning, emphasising conscious, meaningful, and joyful learning strategies in classroom practice.
The programme was facilitated by three certified TEFLIN Master Trainers — Dr Ikhsanudin, Dr Istiqamah, and Dr Yanti Sri Rezeki — who had previously completed TEFLIN’s Training of Trainers programme. The activities were hosted at FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura and the Singkawang City Library Hall, engaging more than 100 registered participants, primarily English teachers from junior and senior secondary schools across West Kalimantan.
The opening ceremony in Pontianak featured welcoming remarks from Prof. Dr Utami Widiati, President of TEFLIN. In her opening speech, Prof. Utami urged participants to make the most of this valuable opportunity for professional development, reiterating TEFLIN’s dedication to advancing the quality of English education across the nation. The participants in Pontianak also heard a speech from Dr Ahmad Yani, Dean of FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura, with additional discussions led by Dr Uray Salam, M.CALL., and Cary Chappel from Kansas State University. A similar opening was conducted in Singkawang by officials from the City’s Education Office.
Throughout the sessions, participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm and collaboration. The programme concluded with post-tests and reflection sessions, highlighting teachers’ growing confidence and pedagogical insight. TEFLIN recommends continuing this programme to further enhance the quality of English language teaching across West Kalimantan.
