The Deep Learning Training and Workshop (DLTW) organized by TEFLIN Central Java on August 5 and 7, 2025 successfully achieved its intended goals. The event brought together 30 English teachers from various vocational high schools (SMK) across Central Java, they shared the same goal of fostering an engaging and collaborative learning atmosphere.
In two intensive days, the participants engaged in skill-based learning sessions which focused on listening, speaking, reading, and writing aligned with three core principles of Deep Learning: mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning. Each session began with an introduction to the concept and application of Deep Learning in English language teaching, followed by lesson plan (RPP) analysis and revision, peer teaching, and concluding with a Focus Group Discussion. This approach allowed participants to experience the learning process from both the teacher’s and the student’s perspectives.
Evaluation revealed that participants gained a deeper understanding of how to embed Deep Learning values into their teaching practice, linking classroom learning to real-life contexts. Teachers also expressed appreciation for the warm, open, and constructive collaboration fostered throughout the program, strengthening professional networks among SMK English teachers in the region.
The workshop also produced several key recommendations: replicating the program in other regions to expand its impact, organizing follow-up forums such as communities of practice or reflective webinars, documenting and sharing revised lesson plans and peer teaching recordings as references, and strengthening collaboration between TEFLIN and local English teacher associations (MGMP).
With its success, the DLTW has set a strong foundation for advancing English language education in Central Java through deep, purposeful, and engaging learning practices.
