SEMARANG – A training and workshop entitled “TEFLIN Deep Learning Training & Workshop for English Teachers of Central Java” was successfully held over two consecutive weeks, on Saturday, July 26 & August 2, 2025, as well as Sunday, July 27 & August 3, 2025.

The event was organized by TEFLIN Central Java Chapter in collaboration with SMAN 1 Semarang; Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES); Dinas Pendidikan Kota Semarang; MGMP Bahasa Inggris SMA dan MTs Kota Semarang; as well as Kementerian Agama Kota Semarang.

The training aims to enhance the professionalism of English teachers in Central Java by introducing and applying the Deep Learning approach in teaching. During the program, participants deepened their understanding of Deep Learning in English language teaching. They revisited the Deep Learning framework, engaged in English learning activities designed with this approach, analyzed lesson plans based on Deep Learning, and applied its principles to lesson plans they developed themselves.

The sessions took place at SMAN 1 Semarang and Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), from 07.30 AM to 04.00 PM. Participants represented various school levels, ranging from elementary schools to senior high schools, vocational schools, and madrasahs, as well as madrasah in Central Java.

A number of speakers delivered training sessions in this workshop. They included Prof. Dr. Issy Yuliasri, M.Pd. (UNNES), who facilitated a session on speaking skills; Dr. Muhammad Rifqi, M.Pd. (Universitas Dian Nuswantoro/UDINUS), who delivered a session on reading; and Alief Noor Farida, M.Pd. (UNNES), who led a writing session. In addition, Dr. Nur Zaida, M.Pd. from Dinas Pendidikan Kota Semarang facilitated training on reading and writing, while Fauziah Ratna Hapsari, M.Pd. from SMAN 2 Pekalongan conducted training on listening and speaking. Christianti Tri Hapsari, M.Pd. (UNNES) also contributed to the workshop by delivering a listening session.

The Coordinator of TEFLIN Central Java Chapter, Prof. Dr. Issy Yuliasri, M.Pd. emphasized that the activity encouraged teachers to be more innovative and reflective in developing meaningful, collaborative teaching practices that strengthen 21st-century competencies. “This event was not only about technical training, but also a collaborative forum for sharing experiences and best practices among English teachers from various regions,” she explained during the program at SMAN 1 Semarang.

The workshop brought together participants from more than 100 educational institutions across Central Java, representing at least 25 regencies/cities, including Semarang, Kudus, Pati, Blora, Tegal, Surakarta, Magelang, Temanggung, Cilacap, Batang, Pekalongan, Jepara, Demak, Grobogan, and Salatiga.

This program becomes a concrete effort by TEFLIN to support the improvement of English language teaching quality in Central Java, while also strengthening networks among educators across institutions.
