The TEFLIN Sumatera Barat Chapter successfully held a teacher training and workshop on Empowering English Teachers through Deep Learning Workshop on July 26th and August 2nd at English Department Universitas Negeri Padang.

The event brought together 50 English teachers from Padang, Pariaman, Bukittinggi, Padang Panjang, Payakumbuh dan Pasaman to enhance their skills and knowledge in English skills.

This professional development program aimed to 1: Introduce deep learning principles in education; 2: Use classroom English for English language teaching; and 3: Equip teachers with how to implement deep learning in teaching English language skills.

Led by by Dr.Yuli Tiarina, M.Pd., Dr. Fitrawati, S.S., M.Pd., Witri Oktavia, M.Pd., Dr. Nina Suzanne, M.Pd. Dr. Lili Perpisa, S.S., M.Pd. from Universitas Negeri Padang, Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat and UIN Mahmud Yusnus Batusangkar. Each session was carefully structured around a cycle of lesson modeling, RPP (lesson plan) analysis, collaborative revision, and peer teaching. This approach allowed participants to engage with deep learning both as learners and as educators. They experienced model lessons, reflected on teaching strategies, revised their lesson plans using the deep learning framework, and practiced delivering the revised lessons among peers., and shared best practices from their own teaching experiences.

By the end of the training, participants reported Teachers were encouraged to critically examine how their classroom activities could foster deeper student engagement, promote critical and creative thinking, and support the holistic development of learners. The use of reflection, discussion, and peer feedback created a collaborative learning environment that encouraged experimentation and growth.
