TEFLIN East Java chapter successfully conducted a two-day Deep Learning Teacher Workshop (DLTW) with the objective of integrating the Deep Learning Approach into English language teaching. The program was designed to provide participating teachers with both theoretical understanding and practical strategies for enhancing classroom instruction. On the first day, the sessions were focused on Listening and Speaking, while the second day was dedicated to Reading and Writing. Each session was carefully structured to highlight the relevance of deep learning principles in promoting more meaningful and reflective language learning experiences.
The workshop successfully achieved several outcomes, including an increased understanding among teachers of the concepts and principles of the Deep Learning Approach, the development of competencies in designing and implementing deep learning-oriented lessons, and an improvement in the overall quality of English language teaching. Additionally, the event facilitated the documentation of exemplary practices that can serve as references for other educators seeking to apply similar approaches in their classrooms. These outcomes demonstrate the potential of the workshop to contribute significantly to teacher professional development and pedagogical innovation.
The sessions were delivered by prominent scholars in the field: Prof. Dr. Moch. Imam Machfudi, S.S., M.Pd., Ph.D. (Listening), Dr. Maya Hidayati, Ph.D. (Speaking), Prof. Utami Widiati, M.A., Ph.D. (Reading), and Prof. Dr. Zuliati Rohmah, M.Pd. (Writing). The workshop was organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Zuliati Rohmah, M.Pd. as Chair of TEFLIN East Java chapter. With the collaboration of these distinguished experts, the DLTW provided a strong academic foundation and practical insights for improving English teaching practices through the integration of deep learning strategies.
