Merauke, August 1, 2025 — In a dedicated effort to strengthen the quality of English language education in Papua, a Deep Learning Training and Workshop was successfully held on July 28 and August 1, 2025. The program took place in Merauke, gathering 31 English teachers from various regions across South Papua.
This initiative was part of TEFLIN’s ongoing commitment to promote meaningful, student-centered teaching practices through Deep Learning—a pedagogical approach that emphasizes critical thinking, engagement, and real-life relevance in the classroom.
Empowering Educators Through Contextual Practice, recognizing this, the training was tailored to address the local context—providing teachers with applicable strategies to foster deep learning English (4 language skills) in resource-limited environments.
Participants engaged in collaborative sessions on lesson planning, reflective practice, and microteaching, all designed to shift classroom instruction from surface-level delivery to transformative learning experiences.
Facilitators guided the participants to produce key outcomes such as:
– Contextualized lesson plans based on Deep Learning principles,
– Personal action plans for classroom implementation.
Feedback collected during the event indicated a significant shift in awareness and enthusiasm among participants—many of whom expressed a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to student-centered learning.
This workshop marks a critical step toward building professional capacity in one of Indonesia’s most underserved regions. Sustaining and scaling this initiative requires collaborative support. TEFLIN calls on everyone to nurture a culture of lifelong learning, especially in remote and under-resourced areas.
