Public Relations – In an effort to enhance the pedagogical competence of English teachers in Central and South Kalimantan, the Kaltengsel (Kalimantan Tengah and Selatan) Chapter of TEFLIN (The Association for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia), in collaboration with the English Education Programme at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FTIK), UIN Palangka Raya, organised a Deep Learning Training and Workshop (DLTW), aimed at developing deep learning-based teaching competencies for English teachers.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Dakir, M.A., Dean of FTIK UIN Palangka Raya. In his remarks, he emphasised the importance of such training as a systematic effort to improve the quality of education, particularly in Central Kalimantan. He also expressed UIN Palangka Raya’s full support for the implementation of teacher development programmes of this kind.

The workshop was held in person over the weekend, 19–20 July 2025, at the FTIK Hall of UIN Palangka Raya. Running from 08.00 to 16.00 local time, the event was attended by 18 English teachers from Central Kalimantan. Meanwhile, a similar workshop for 17 teachers from South Kalimantan is scheduled to be held at UNISKA Banjarmasin.

The DLTW is designed to strengthen teachers’ understanding and skills in applying a Deep Learning approach to English language teaching, grounded in the principles of mindfulness, meaningfulness, and joyfulness.

Prof. Utami Widiati, President of TEFLIN, commended the event as a follow-up to the online DLTW session held in May 2025. According to her, such initiatives are essential to help English teachers respond to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s programme on Deep Learning implementation.

She also noted that the workshop would contribute to enhancing pedagogical practices and competence among teachers across Indonesia.

Dr. M. Zaini Miftah, TEFLIN Kaltengsel Regional Coordinator, expressed his gratitude for the support provided by TEFLIN’s central board and UIN Palangka Raya. He also extended his appreciation to all participants, committee members, and Master Trainers for their active contributions to the success of the event.

The main sessions on the concept and implementation of Deep Learning were delivered online by Prof. Ali Saukah and Prof. Utami Widiati from TEFLIN. Meanwhile, in-person sessions focusing on the integration of Deep Learning into the four English language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) were led by the Master Trainers: Dr. M. Zaini Miftah from UIN Palangka Raya, Dr. (Cand.) Supiani from UNISKA Banjarmasin, Isna Indriati, M.Pd., from MAN Insan Cendekia Palangka Raya, and Dellis Pratika, M.A., from Universitas Palangka Raya.
