Sonora Palembang — The Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia (TEFLIN), in collaboration with Sriwijaya University (UNSRI), held a Training and Workshop on Deep Learning in English Language Teaching on Saturday (28 June 2025), at the UNSRI Language Centre (UPT Bahasa), Bukit Besar, Palembang.
The event was attended by 35 participants from various regions across Sumatra, Jambi, and Bangka Belitung, including lecturers, schoolteachers, and postgraduate students. The main focus of the training was the application of the Deep Learning approach to enhance the effectiveness of teaching the four core English language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Emphasising Deep and Meaningful Learning
Regional Coordinator of TEFLIN for South Sumatra, Jambi, and Bangka Belitung, Sary Silvhiany, M.Pd., M.A., Ph.D., stated that this training is part of TEFLIN’s ongoing commitment to supporting the initiatives of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
“We want teachers and lecturers to understand the application of Deep Learning as an approach that emphasises deep understanding, mastery of competencies, and teaching that is mindful, meaningful, and joyful,” she said.
The training aimed to equip educators with the ability to design instruction that is relevant to students’ lives, enjoyable, and still academically rigorous.
UNSRI’s Full Support for Deep Learning Implementation
Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at UNSRI, Dr Hartono, M.A., emphasised the significance of this initiative in preparing teachers, especially English language educators, for the new academic year by adopting the latest pedagogical approaches.
“At FKIP UNSRI, we continue to build the capacity of our lecturers to meet the challenges of 21st-century education, including the integration of Deep Learning into classroom instruction,” he remarked.
