
Banda Aceh, May 23, 2025 — The Aceh Education Office, in collaboration with TEFLIN Aceh (The Association for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia), officially launched the Deep Learning Training and Workshop (DLTW) for English teachers across senior high schools in Aceh. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Marthunis, ST, DEA, Head of the Aceh Education Office, and supported virtually by TEFLIN President, Prof. Utami Widiati, Ph.D.
Held over two days (May 23–24) at the Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar Branch Office of Education, the workshop is part of TEFLIN’s national initiative to promote deep learning in English instruction, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Dozens of educators participated in the training, led by master trainers:
• Prof. Zulfadli A. Aziz (Chair of TEFLIN Aceh)
• Dr. Kismullah, M.App. Ling (Head of USK Language Centre)
• Eridafithri, S.Pd., M.A. (TESOL)
• Marisa Yoestara, S.Pd., M.A (TESL)
In his opening remarks, Mr. Marthunis emphasised the role of English in global engagement and employment, calling the workshop a strategic effort to empower teachers and reduce unemployment through language proficiency. The event was also attended by education leaders from the provincial office
and local universities, reinforcing collaboration in raising educational
standards.
Prof. Utami closed her virtual address by encouraging participants to fully commit to the training, expressing hope that it would contribute meaningfully to improving the quality of English education in Aceh and beyond.
