

A technical assistance workshop on project-based learning module design was conducted at auditorium of the SMK Negeri 2 Singkawang City on November 28th, 2024. The workshop was conducted as a collaboration of several parties: namely: (1) association for teaching English as a foreign language in Indonesia (TEFLIN); (2) the PKM Team for the English Language Education Masters Study Program at Tanjungpura University; (3) RELO American Embassy in Jakarta; (4) Singkawang City High School English Language MGMP; (5) Singkawang City Vocational School English Language MGMP; (6) Singkawang City Middle School English Language MGMP; and (6) Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak.


The workshop was opened by the Vice President of TEFLIN (delivered by the Vice President Prof. Muhammad Zaim, online from Padang State University). In his speech, he expressed congratulations and support for holding this workshop. He also explained the importance of English teacher professional development programs as a part of supporting the improvement of theEnglish language teaching in Indonesia. On behalf of the President of TEFLIN, Prof. Zaim officially opened the workshop.


In this activity TEFLIN was able to present four resource persons and facilitators, namely: (1) Melanie Gobert (educator with decades of experience in various countries, RELO representative to the American Embassy); (2) Ikhsanudin (Untan lecturer who is also the coordinator/chairperson of TEFLIN chapter forKalimantan Barat); (3) Regina (Untan lecturer who is also the vice chairperson of TEFLIN chapter for Kalimantan Barat); and (4) Kasmawitha (an active and creative English teacher in Singkawang). There was also a presentation by (Head of the Pontianak Muhammadiyah University Library). The organizer of the event was very skilled, namely Rani Widiasty. The moderators (Kusfita and Dwi Rahayu) were orderly in leading the event. The committee crew and other supporting personnel are also okay. This activity is really cool.


The chairperson of the committee has a high level of leadership, namely Eko Dwi Saputro. His remarks were very informative. He explained the background, objectives and implementation of the workshop. The principal of SMKN 2 (Pak Mizan) expressed the school’s full support for the success of the workshop.
