On October 12, 2024, TEFLIN delegate, Harumi Manik Ayu Yamin (Vice Secretary of TEFLIN) attended the 2024 Applied Linguistics Association of Korea (ALAK) International Conference at Seoul National University, South Korea. Professionally hosted by ALAK, the theme of the conference was L2 Curriculum and L2 Development.
Attended by approximately 100 participants and presenters from South Korea, England, Hong Kong, the United States, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and China, the conference featured renowned keynote speakers in second language acquisition and language education: Kook Hee Gil from University of Sheffield, UK and Yukio Tono from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan.
As for onsite featured speakers, in addition to Harumi Manik Ayu Yamin from Universitas Indonesia, who gave a presentation on The Role of English as a Medium of Instruction in Reshaping Higher Education in Indonesia, there were also Melinda Whong from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Xiaoling Gao from CELEA: Zhengzhou University, Gornkrit Meemongkol from Thai TESOL: Srinakharinwirot University, and Takayuki Hara from JACET: Kagoshima University. There was also an online presentation from a featured speaker from KoTESOL, Reece Randall (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) and KDI School of Public Policy and Management (KDIS)). The whole-day conference started at 09:00 with opening remarks from Yoonhee Jang, the Director of Language Education Institute of Seoul National University, and Sun-Young Lee, the President of ALAK. It was officially closed at 17:10 by Kyungja Ahn as the Conference Chair. After the conference, there was a farewell dinner attended by invited speakers and committee members.
