TEFLIN Bali, NTB and NTT Chapter in collaboration with English Department, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University held a public lecture on Thursday (8/12) located in the Widyasabha Mandala Hall which was attended by more than 160 participants. This public lecture was entitled “The Power of Extensive Reading and Listening” and invited Dr. Willy Ardian Renandaya as the guest speaker, moderated by A. A. Sagung Shanti Sari Dewi.

The event was attended by Maria Hidayati (the Secretary General of TEFLIN), Dr. Ni Luh Nyoman Seri Malini (Coordinator of TEFLIN Bali, Nusa Tenggara Barat, and Nusa Tenggara Timur Chapter) and the Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (represented by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of FIB, I Nyoman Aryawibawa). In his remarks, he stated that the event supported the quality of education because the title is in line with the literacy movement that the government is currently promoting. “By holding a public lecture like this, it is hoped that it will be able to make students become the pioneers to raise awareness of the importance of literacy for every young generation,” he said.

In his presentation, Dr. Willy Ardian Renandaya emphasized that extensive reading and listening is the key to success in mastering English. Balancing reading and listening skills will make it easier to understand English. “Especially for the academic community, this is very important to master, especially to improve the quality of education and human resources for the future of the nation,” he emphasized. Dr. Willy also added that reading and listening comprehension will also be very common for students who are interested in continuing their studies abroad because they will intersect with TOEFL and IELTS as the main requirements for being able to continue their education at the international level.
