TEFLIN Jawa Timur Chapter in collaboration The English Department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya held National Seminar on Corpus Linguistics for Language Teaching Via Zoom On 27 November 2021. As many as 236 participants joined the event opened by the President of TEFLIN, Prof. Utami Widiati and the Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Agus Aditoni.
Dr. Wahju Kusumajanti as the Chair of the Committee and the Head of the English Department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya said that this seminar was held as a medium for exposing knowledge about corpus linguistics and its application that can be used to support language teaching. By participating in this National Seminar, it is hoped that the participants, especially teachers, lecturers, or foreign language tutors, can optimize the use of corpus linguistics and transmit it to their students. In detail, the material for this activity includes the use of corpus linguistics for language teachers, the use of Data Driven Learning (DDL) to improve academic skills in English, and the application of corpora data by using various related software.
Three speakers in this event, namely, Prof. Yazid Basthomi (Universitas Negeri Malang), Prihantoro, PhD. (Universitas Diponegoro Semarang), and Suhandoko, M.Pd (UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya), made informative and inspiring presentations that most of the participants wanted to to have follow up activities in the form of more technical ways of how to operate various kinds of software available for corpus linguistics.
